Investing in My Art Journey

Today, I decided to spend my last $36 on a Croquis Café membership. It might not have been the most responsible financial choice, but I truly believe that the more I invest in my art—both in tools and practice—the better I will become.

I also need to read all the books I’ve recommended to myself, and I will. Just recently, I finished a paper on shading, and it was an eye-opening experience. I want to start internalizing the terminology related to art, anatomy, and everything else I need to know to elevate my skills.

In the images above, you’ll see a snapshot of my Croquis Café account and How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way, a book I’m diving into. I’ve never been big on reading art books, but I’m finally starting to study them seriously. I had years to do this and completely overlooked it, wasting time when I could have been learning. Since I couldn’t afford art school, the next best thing is self-education through books—something I should have taken advantage of much sooner.

In addition, I’ve been doing timed sketches—one-minute, two-minute, and five-minute poses—to improve my speed and observation skills.

I have complete faith in God that my art will be in the top 1% within the next 5–7 years. My goal is to sell my work at San Diego Comic-Con and contribute to top-tier projects. The journey is just beginning, but I’m committed to seeing it through.
